As cidades do futuro serão flutuantes?
Duas em cada cinco pessoas no mundo vivem a menos de 100 quilômetros do litoral, e 90% das megacidades em todo o mundo são vulneráveis ao aumento do nível do mar.
Sem ter para onde expandir, o rápido crescimento urbano está empurrando as populações para mais perto da água. Mas as inundações já estão destruindo bilhões de dólares em infraestrutura e forçando milhões de pessoas a deixar suas casas. Ao que tudo indica, o nível do mar pode contiuar subindo nos próximos anos.
Diante dessa preocupação, a empresa OCEANIX, escolheu a cidade de Busan, na Coréia do Sul, para construir a primeira cidade flutuante sustentável, que será habitada por 12 mil pessoas, mas que pode ser expandida para crescer, e ter mais de 100 mil residentes e visitantes. A futura cidade será construída sobre plataformas e terá bairros projetados para propósitos específicos: moradia, pesquisa e hospedagem. Contarão com sistemas resíduo zero, sistemas de água e alimentos, e vão gerar 100% da sua energia necessária.
Philipp Hofmann, CEO da OCEANIX, diz que “Estamos a caminho (…) de demonstrar que a infraestrutura flutuante pode criar novas terras para cidades costeiras que buscam maneiras sustentáveis de se expandir para o oceano”.
Certamente um empreendimento inovador, com anos de construção pela frente, cujo o sucesso pode fazer governos repensarem estratégias e readaptar cidades para o futuro.
Mas, seria uma boa alternativa para driblar os problemas climáticos que assolam o mundo?
